Information from our collecting friend, Ron Greene:

With regard to this Casino. The ship was brought from New Orleans, on a heavy lift ship called the Swan and off-loaded at Royal Roads (near Victoria) where the ship underwent some conversion and overhaul work. The Casino opened at New Westminster, not Vancouver, on October 6, 1999 as the Royal City Star Casino. I have not been able to find the date that it became the Royal City Star Riverboat Casino, but the change took place in the phone book between the issues for 2001/2002 and 2002/2003. The Annual Reports of the BC Lottery Corporation (who control the gaming in BC) still used the name Royal City Star Casino in their 2004/2005 Annual Report. These reports are available as pdf files at the BCLC website. At some point in time [again I don't know when] the Riverboat was not required to sail. Originally it sailed twice a day for one hour each time. Gateway acquired control several years after it opened but I haven't pulled the Corporate Registry file yet to determine that date.
